DIAC | DIode for Alternating Current

- A DIAC is a device which has two electrodes, four layers and it is a member of the thyristor family.

- The advantage of a DIAC is that it can be turned on or off simply by reducing the voltage level below its avalanche breakdown voltage.

- DIACs are bidirectional devices, their terminals are not labeled as anode and cathode but as A1 and A2 or main terminal MT1 and MT2.

- DIACs are also called "symmetrical trigger diodes" due to the symmetry of their characteristic curve.
